Kelshi School Transformation

Maaydesh Foundation - Kelshi School Transformation

Kelshi village is in Dapoli taluka, Ratnagiri district, Maharashtra state in Western India. It has been known for beautiful, clean and serene beaches, well-maintained famous temples and couple of pre-Shiv-kalin forts. Maaydesh Foundation’s Arun Joshi was invited by the Gram panchayat (elected village committee), Kelshi Primary school principal, and the school parents committee to modify and expand the current school building.

Mr. Arun Joshi's grandfather, the late Keshav Balakrishna Joshi, was born and raised in the village of Velas, where he also received his primary education. Later, he moved to Mumbai for his business pursuits, but his bond with his native village remained strong. Whenever he visited Velas, he would make it a point to visit the local school. He often brought snacks or small gifts for the students and warmly inquired about the well-being of the teachers. His thoughtful and affectionate nature helped him maintain a close relationship with both the students and the teaching staff.

In honor of his grandfather's legacy, Mr. Arun Joshi decided to donate a permanent fund of ₹15,000 to support the overall development of the school. Using this fund, various programs have been organized, often inviting close friends and family members of the late K.B. Joshi. Now, taking his commitment a step further, Mr. Arun Joshi has also taken the initiative to lead the school’s renovation efforts. The new school design will include an indoor auditorium, a new kitchen, new bathrooms for boys and girls, a new staff room, a new principal’s office, and a guest welcome room. Maaydesh Foundation is also providing better outdoor sports facilities and an outdoor stage for bigger programs. We intend to build a new secured compound wall, gates, with lights, and a security system. New computer lab will hold ten computers and facility to train students on Robotics and AI. Maaydesh Foundation has gotten the necessary permissions from the education district head for this new school design and all the facilities. Now, the added classrooms can hold all 120 students of this primary school. On Sept 6, 2025 School Staff, Parent committee and Maaydesh Foundation’s Arun Joshi performed ground breaking Puja to bless the new construction.
